some easy to use software to automatically geocode (geotag) digital pictures by matching GPS logs and for pruducing KML files for Google Earth™ to view your tracks and pictures on the globe.
pictures from all standard digital cameras and track logs of standard GPS loggers from Garmin™, Magellan®, etc.
It just matches the timestamps of both - pictures and GPS logs - and writes the GPS information like coordinates and altitude to the invisible header (EXIF) of the picture. Therefore Fodysseus reads GPX and NMEA files from your GPS logger.
Else Fodysseus reads GPS-Information from the EXIF an produces KML files for Google Earth™.
Further Fodysseus writes GPX and NMEA GPS-Logs to KML directly, too.
One of the main issues of Fodysseus is to be easy to use: Drag&Drop your files from your file browser to Fodysseus, most of the settings for your task will fit by default. Your main job is to choose the outpout file name and directory.

Almost all modern digicams save hidden informations with the beside the pictures themselves. These are camera settings, camera vendor, exposure time, date, etc. The common standard to save this hidden information is called "exchangeable image file format" (EXIF) and was developed by the "Japan Electronic and Information Technology Industries Association" (JEITA) for JPEG.
EXIF provides the possibility to save GPS coordinates as well as the altitude to a picture. And Fodysseus is able to produce thes GPS entries to the hidden header. When producing a KML file for Google Earth™ Fodysseus takes those coordinates to assigne the pictures to the right location on the globe. An pin shows the user that there are a picture at certain locations and a click on the icon opens the photo.
There are a few cameras that are able to directly write GPS information to the EXIF header. These camearas focus the professional markets where high accuracy for the pictures is needed. We do supply such a GPS_cameras from our partner Ricoh®.
But for your private pictures all you need for using Fodysseus is a ordinary GPS logger and an ordinary digicam!
GPS loggers save their log files in tracks and waypoints. The most common formats are teh GPS Exchange Format (GPX) and the NMEA 0183 Format (National Marine Electronics Association).
With Fodysseus you are able to use any of these formats to produce GPS pictures or convert your tracks and waypoints to Google Earth™ KML files.
